Life Isn't Always Fair

Darlene, my mother-in-law, is one of the kindest people I know and she is always taking care of other people.  When I think about the kind of Grandma that every kid should have, Darlene comes to mind. She loves to bake, say yes to anything the kids ask for or want to do, and she truly enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. On February 10th, Darlene, a two-time breast cancer survivor, had her yearly cancer check up and was told she was "good to go" for another year.  Less than two weeks later, she was at the doctor getting over a quart of fluid removed from her lungs.  A week later she found out that she has Stage IV cancer, which is in her lungs.  She also has spots on her bones.  Darlene will be getting treatments that may help to slow the progression of the disease.

Brenna and Brody know that Nana has cancer again, but they really don't understand what that means. After Darlene told Brenna and Brody, Brody came marching in the house and exclaimed, "Nana has cancer!" We had to explain to him that we usually don't use an excited tone of voice when talking about cancer.  We are hoping the treatments do the trick without causing Darlene to have too many side effects.  I have been so blessed to have my own grandma in my life for so many years and I want the same for Brenna and Brody.

Play date with John

In February, we finally managed to get together with Brenna and Brody's friend John and his mom, Brenda.    They had a great time bowling!
Brody watches his ball and leans..
They had a blast on the motorcycle without having to put any money into it!

Not Nice, but kind of Funny...

I always hear the best conversations from my children when I am getting ready in the morning.
When Brenna started out this conversation, I thought it was going to be very serious.  Not quite the case. Someone taught them a saying I remember hearing when I was kid....

Brenna: "Brody, when you get done with being a freshman and high school and everything, do you know what you are going to do?"
Brody: "What?"
Brenna: "You are going to jupiter to get more stupider while I go to college to get more knowledge."

And another morning conversation:

Brenna: I am glad I am not in your class Brody because you are a sassy little boy.

Brody referring to a girl in his class: Tori is a sassy girl and it's killing me.  Every day she wants to play with the blocks and then she knocks down my house.  It's so "annoring."  Both of my kids say "annoring" for annoying.  I guess we need to work on that.

My children do make me smile. :)
