Tired of Being Sick

Last week was a week full of sickness at our house.  Brenna and Brody woke up Monday morning with a nasty cough.  They did not have a fever so we sent them to school.  By the afternoon, both of them had a fever to go along with the cough. Brody's fever lasted about 24 hours but Brenna's continued until Thursday when her temperature went down for a day.  Well, by Friday morning the fever was back and so we made an appointment for Friday afternoon.  The diagnosis: Pneumonia!  Dr. Kishaba listened to her lungs for about 5 seconds and quickly said, "She has pnuemonia."  I gasped because I was surprised.  Partially because I was expecting him to say, "It's a virus" even though I thought there was something wrong with her and partially because I was surprised it was Pneumonia.   Well, my gasp caused Brenna to think there was something terrible wrong with her which in turn made her start sobbing.  I had mommy guilt for not bringing her into the doctor sooner, and because I had just scared her with my gasp!  She has had three days of antiobotics and is feeling better.  The cough still sounds painful so I'm hoping the medicine takes care of it.   The nice doctor tried to lessen my guilt by telling me I brought Brenna in at just the right time.

Steve brought Brenna up to Eau Claire for her appointment and I met him at the clinic so he could go back to work. Well, Brenna thought Brody was going to be with me and when she realized he wasn't, she started to cry and say,  "Where's Brody?" "I want to see Brody."   Apparently, Brody had asked Carrie about Brenna during the day as well.  He had wanted to call and find out if she had been to the doctor and how she was doing.  Their closeness and concern for each other amazes me at times and makes me realize that they do have a special bond.

On Friday, Brody got to spend the day at Carrie's without Brenna. Carrie's sister, Connie, was in town for the weekend and had brought her Wii along. Brody got to get his Wii fix, which he was very excited about. He had a great time. When he was playing American Idol, I guess Simon told him his singing was horrible but Randy Jackson liked his singing so he wasn't too upset. Brenna was slightly jealous of Brody's day at Carrie's and wants to have a day there with Connie and Carrie without Brody.

Needless to say this weekend was spent at home quietly playing, playing, playing and more playing trying to get better.  I also managed to fit in some cleaning during the playing breaks.  Both were feeling better, which made them want to do a little too much.  And by too much I mean chase after each other screaming, attempting to tackle, pinch, bite, and wrestle each other.  At least this time I had the extra reason of telling them they were too sick to fight that way.   I think too many days of being sick and cooped up has made them both a little agressive!

Brody was overtired and upset this evening.  He said if anyone MADE him cry again he was going to look for a new home.  According to Brody, he had already cried earlier in the morning when he was watching Hotel for Dogs and did not want to cry again.  I did ask him where his new home would be and he said Nana and Papa's house.  Thankfully nobody MADE him cry again and so we get to keep him.  At least for one more night.

No pictures for this blog. I left my camera in Augusta and won't be able to get it back until Tuesday. It's driving me crazy!  Watch for Brody's video of "Pants on the Ground"  hopefully coming soon.

All for now! Have a great week!

Beaver Bowl and Winklebowl

Two Fridays ago Brody and Brenna's school had 4K family day at the Beaver Bowl in Augusta.  Steve agreed to take the day off so Brenna and Brody could attend.

                                                                             Action shot
Saturday we got invited to sledding party at the last minute and decided to go.  It was a perfect spot for sledding.  A nice big hill without any dangerous obstacles at the bottom.  Brody needed rescuing due to a major snowwash and actually got on a snowmobile with Kelly, a friend who was hosting the party.  We couldn't believe he did it.  The first words out of his mouth when we were leaving were, "I'm proud of myself." "Mom, will you still pay me $5 for riding?"  I had offered him $5 a few weeks ago when we were trying to get him to take a ride at home.  He will only ride with Kelly though...so still no rides at home.

Yesterday (Sunday) we enjoyed more outside time after the kids got back from Aunt Jessie and Uncle's house. Brody had set up a Wii date with Uncle.  He had even drawn a Wii remote on the calendar at Nana and Papa's.  This meant I got to have a few hours to myself!  I spent it shopping!

Who needs sleds when  you have ice to play on? The kids had fun playing on the ice in the driveway. We also went sledding and snowboarding again in the backyard.

Even the big kids played
Today (Monday) Abbi and Brenna did their hair and put makeup on before leaving for bowling.
Because of the 4K family day, Brenna and Brody are on a bowling kick and decided that is what they wanted to do on our President's Day vacation. We went to Winklebowl (as Brenna calls it) in Eau Claire. Tyler and Abbi came with and Carrie met us there.  We bowled, ate lunch, and played some of the arcade games.  It was a fun day! Brenna had one minor temper tantrum but recovered from it quickly.

It was nice having an extra day with the kids  Have a great week!
